Philatelic Literature As An Investment

The purchase of philatelic literature is the most important investment that a collector can make. The study of the literature available in our hobby allows the collector to educate him or herself about the subtle nuances of stamp or postal history collecting. There have been more titles written about stamp and stamp collecting than any other hobby. When you arm yourself with the information found in these books you make yourself less susceptible to fakes, forgeries and repaired stamps and covers. In fact there are many books that will pay for themselves many times over in the course of your collecting years. Many collectors rely heavily on philatelic expertizing boards. Remember, however, that their opinions are just that opinions without guarantees. It is far better to arm yourself with the knowledge and to become the expert in your field. The knowledge you gain will give you an edge when it comes to both buying and selling.
