The 34th Plymouth Stamp Show April 26th & 27th

The West Suburban Stamp Club will hold their annual Plymouth Stamp Show on the weekend of April 26th. The show will be held on Saturday, 10 AM to 5:30 PM and Sunday, 10 AM to 4:00 PM at the Plymouth Central Middle School located at Church and Main streets in downtown Plymouth, Michigan.

This is the premier show in Michigan and is a qualifying show for the APS World Series of Philately. There will be 176 frames of open competition.

It's a very special show. Only two days long, it's held in a public school gymnasium and draws people non-stop each day. The West Suburban Club has no shortage of volunteers handling ever aspect of the show. One of the unique features is all of the good home cooking offered in the entrance area to the gym. You’ll find homemade cookies and cakes, grilled Polish sausage, sandwiches and much more.

On the show floor you'll find a very diverse array of dealers (over 40 of them) from all over the United States. It would be difficult not to find what you may need for your collection. In addition, this year Craig Whitford of Lansing, Michigan, is holding an auction of a major collection of Michigan postal history.

By the last weekend of April the weather is usually very nice and this just adds to the overall experience. I hope to see you in Plymouth this coming weekend.

No. 11 pen cancelled (possible precancel) on red and black folded circular published by Charles M. Willard offering the Zeverly handstamps to postmasters. This was mailed 6 months later than the one currently being offered in the Rumsey Auction. It is also Postally used. There is a fold separation that has been "silked" on the back.. A rare piece of postal history. (99090) $995.00

The Charles M. Willard Folded Circular
The circular shown above has been opened up so you can see the contents. The back side is also packed with advertising copy and a list of post offices using the Zeverly hand stamps (a scan can be sent to you via e-mail). Since this is a folded circular it should have gone at the two-cent circular rate. However, this circular has a three-cent 1851 issue franking it. The stamp is pen cancelled and appears to be a precancel. This is a marvelous historical item. Sold subject to a PF certificate. You can see it in the 1851 postal history section (in full color) on our website at www.jameslee.com.
