Our lead story...
Two Book Signings to be
Held at APS StampShow
We will be holding two book signings at the APS StampShow in Columbus, Ohio, this year. The signings will be held at our booth, which is number 410, on the main aisle. The first signing will be on Friday, August 8th between 3 and 4 PM. Richard Helbock will be signing copies of his newly-revised edition of Prexie Postal History. All of Helbock’s other titles will be available at the signing. You can learn more about this new edition on page two of our newsletter.
On Saturday, August 9th between 2 and 3 PM noted postal historian, Richard Graham, will be signing copies of Appletons’ United States Postal guide - October 1863. Dick was responsible for encouraging me to reprint this important publication in 2001. He wrote a forward for the reprint edition. We will also have copies of Graham’s Postal History Sampler available.
This year StampShow is located in Columbus, which has easy access from any part of the country by air. There are plenty of hotel rooms near the show site. I am sure this will rank as one of the best StampShows in APS history.
We will have are entire stock of essays and proofs, postal history and fancy cancels available. Our literature inventory will be limited by space to current titles. If there is a book you would like to see just give us a call at 800-696-8403 and we will be happy to bring it along.

Combination Railroad and Steamboat Cover. This cover is one of the gems from the railroad collection of Fred MacDonald. It was sent to Hon. Henry Bryce, U.S. District Judge at New Orleans, LA. It was forwarded to him at Potilo. We quote from Fred’s exhibit page: "Red circular date stamp and Arabic rate hand stamp (both in red) applied by New York & Philadelphia agent. Black Arabic rate hand stamp covers the forwarding fee from New Orleans on the Steamer "Fashion" (in red) operating on the Red River in Louisiana during 1851." An amazing combination transportation usage. (P32-1) $950.00
The Warner H. Kiefaber Collection of 1875 United States Newspaper Stamp Trial Color Large Die Proofs
[Note: To view (and purchase from) the Kiefaber collection,
In January we were fortunate to purchase the Kiefaber collection intact. It
contained 66 trial color large die proofs most of which are full size. The
collection is housed in two red Elbe custom imprinted albums. The proofs are
being offered for sale on the original Elbe album pages. The pages were
inscribed by hand using what looks to be rapidiograpgh pen and template system.
My guess is that this collection was mounted sometime prior to World War II.
Most of the proofs are unique. Where two exist the other example is in the
Clarence Eagle collection which now resides in the Smithsonian. It is
interesting to note that Scott's valued you these proofs at $110.00 each in 1992
and at $200.00 each today. Their pricing data is interesting since these have
not traded in over 50 years. All of the values before the $1.92 value have been
placed with collectors. All of the remaining high values are shown on our
website. Four of the values have been chosen as a representation for this
newsletter. They are priced between $600.00 and $1,000.00. We feel that this is
a realistic figure for something that is unique. Inquires and questions are
invited at 800 -696-8403.
