Our lead story...

Saluting The Classics Society's
50th Anniversary Celebration...

...an event that calls to mind many of the greatest experts in the history of U.S. philately—names like Chase, Ashbrook, Perry, Baker, Brookman, Neinken, and Sloane. The wellspring of our vast published studies on America's earliest stamps can be attributed in many ways to the handful of individuals who founded the U.S. Philatelic Classics Society in 1948.

Originally, of course, it was not known by its present name, but simply for the singular stamp that was the only focal point of what was then call The 3-Cent 1851-57 Study Unit of the American Philatelic Society. The two greatest students of that stamp, Dr. Carroll Chase and Stanley B. Ashbrook, were made honorary members—and through the efforts of numerous serious philatelists over the years, the group went on to embrace the collecting and study of all of U.S. 19th century philately.

We believe the Classics Society is the rock solid foundation upon which the great traditions of U.S. philately reside. We are proud to be a member and to extend to all Classics Society members our fondest wishes on this anniversary! Why not join, too! See the enclosed Classics Society membership application attached to our yellow order blank.
