This is edition is coming to you two days early this week because of Thanksgiving. On that note we want to extend to you and your family a joyous and Happy Thanksgiving.

We have expanded the quick link feature in this issue. Instead of having to request scans of the material offered we have created a page on our website which will contain the material each week. All you have to do to view the material is click on the link.

The quick link feature has also been extended to the new auction catalog section. This week we are featuring the 1847 issue. Again, all you have to do is click on the link and it will take you to the catalog page. Recent Releases can also be reached in the same way. In the event that the embedded links do not work for you, use the quick links near the end of the email newsletter.

Correction – We put the wrong toll-free number in the last paragraph of the newsletter. The correct toll-free number is 877/696-8403.

This Week’s Special offers a book that has been out of print for over 20 years. This is the second and last week for this title. The price will increase on November 30th. One of our all time favorites: Simpson’s U.S. Postal Markings: 1851 to 1861.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

520 Simpson’s U.S. Postal Markings: 1851 to 1861 – New in Publisher’s shrink wrap By Thomas Alexander, 1979, 434p, HB. This work is the definitive reference for both students of the 1851, 1861 issues, and cancellation collectors alike. It provides hundreds of tracings, a rarity factor, and text covering all types of markings for the period. It is one of the essential reference books for any library.

We have just uncovered 21 copies of this book in new condition in the original shrink wrap. Many of the used copies we get in are just that, well used. The only drawback is that these have been in storage for about 25 years. The shrink wrap has shrunk over the years and worn away very small amounts of the dust jacket at the corners. The books are still sealed and new.

We are going to offer our email subscribers the first opportunity to purchase these at $65.00 postpaid for the next two weeks. The remaining copies will go into inventory at $75.00 plus $5.00 shipping. You can save $15.00 by ordering now.

Good morning Randy,

We have incorporated a new feature into the newsletter this week. There is now a link that will take you directly to a page on our website that will contain all of the recent releases from the past 12 months as well as our own publications. This will save us formatting time each week and eliminate the rehashed look of that section.

This Week’s Specials offer finds of a couple of books that has been out of print for over 20 years. The first is one of our all time favorites: Simpson’s U.S. Postal Markings: 1851 to 1861. The Featured Title is another favorite as well: The Work of Jean de Sperati II – including Previously Unlisted Forgeries.

This week we are also bringing back an offering of essay-proof material and a copy of nice covers.

One-Of-A-Kind has been replaced by a new section, Auction Catalogs. This section will include catalogs not listed on our website. This weeks selection focuses on essays and proofs.

Our hard copy newsletter is back from the printer and is scheduled to go into the mail today. All of the material will be posted on our website no later than this coming Monday.

Next weekend will be our final show of the year, Chicagopex. You can find dates, times and location at the end of this newsletter.

Have a great day!

Good morning Randy,

It has been one of those “planes, trains and automobiles” type months. A buying trip to Atlanta, visiting clients and family, two shows back to back, and a couple of auctions thrown in for good measure. We are now back settled in at our home base for the balance of the year. Thus the weekly newsletter will become weekly for the next two months.

The Scott U.S. Specialized is in and the last of the advance ordered copies (to date) are going in the mail today. We still have three cases of the Specialized on hand and any orders received today will be mailed on Monday. The arrival of the Classic is three weeks away and orders are still being accepted

Intercepted in Bermuda – The Censorship of Transatlantic Mail during the Second World War has just been released and is in stock. You will find it under New Releases.

Larry Sherman’s book: U.S. Patriotic Envelopes of WWII received a gold medal in the literature competition at StampShow. Copies are still available for purchase.

We are in the process of completing a special 24 page edition of our full color newsletter for Chicagopex. This will be dropped in early November. It is loaded with postal history, essays and proofs and some rather nice fancy cancels.

Next week we will announce a new major title that we are publishing. It will be our third book of the year and should be out in time for the holidays.

We hope you will find something of interest in this issue.

Postage Stamps and their Collection By Warren H. Colson, 1907, 98p, HB. Warren Colson was the most important dealer in the first part of the 20th century. He was a great promoter of philately as shown in this book and other pamphlets that he produced. This was to be the first in a series of handbooks describing great collectors and collections of the world. He writes about and illustrates the collection formed by Dr. W. C. Bowers. A deluxe volume produced on very high quality deckle edged paper. However, Colson skimped on the binding using paper instead of cloth on the boards. As a result the spine has become naked over the years lacking the paper. The binding is still tight just lacks the paper on the spine. $20.00 and only three are available.

717 The Great Mail By L. Huber and C. Wagner, 1949, 200p, HB. Published by the APS this work covers the postal history of New Orleans from the time of the Louisiana Purchase (1803) until 1895. The focus is on mail service to, through and from the city. It covers steamboat mail, express, the Southern route, Civil War period, scandal resulting in registered mail, postal markings, fumigated, The Cotton Centennial Exposition (1884-85) and more. A marvelous work. $50.00 and only four are available.

Good morning Randy,

Since many of our subscribers were on vacation the past two weeks we are extending the prepublication offer on the Chicago book for one week. Over 90 copies were sold this past week at StampShow which exceeded our expectations.

There are two wonderful Specials and Featured Titles offered this week. Please be sure to check them out. Also we have brought back the One-Of-A-Kind section and you will find it at the end of the newsletter.

StampShow was extremely busy for us. The attendance may have appeared to be light. However, there were as many dealers with booths as in Washington. I think the APS needs to rethink the size of the show especially next year for Portland. The Portland market is nowhere near the size of Chicago.

May have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend.

It has taken almost three weeks to unwind everything from Washington 2006. This is the first day back in the groove and moving forward.

We purchased some amazing proof items in Washington. One of the highlights is a set of 1869 invert card proofs with sheet margins which is offered here.

There has been a publishing renaissance in the past 12 months. A total of eight books were introduced at Washington 2006 and are listed below. Two are already out of print with the publishers and one has already experienced a publisher's price increase.

We have booth number 333 at StampShow in August which will be in my home town, Chicago (actually the show is in Rosemont) and we hope to see you there.
